WHY CHOOSE FLEMING COLLEGE FOR POLICE FOUNDATIONS – ADVANCED STANDING
Through the Police Foundations- Advanced Standing program, you will develop the hands-on skills and training necessary to deal with the wide range of situations police officers encounter every day.
Innovative Curriculum- Mental Health Strategies in Policing: Fleming College is leading the way in providing specialized training to respond to increasing numbers of mental health calls-for-service. Recent inquests have highlighted that these calls for service can be volatile and often the individual officer’s level of training factors into successfully resolving these situations. Additionally, the curriculum examines a variety of mental health issues faced by college students, front line community services workers and police officers. Students will learn how to identify stressors, symptoms related to stress and how to manage stress effectively.
New curriculum addresses the increasing role and expanding job market for civilian policing in Ontario. Tailor your electives to correspond to your career goals – police officer (fitness electives) or civilian staff member (civilian policing electives). For those who choose the fitness electives, your training to prepare for the PREP and PARE tests takes place in our state-of-the-art gym and sports complex.
