The King’s International Foundation Programmes are specialist academic courses designed for ambitious international students who want to progress to a related undergraduate degree at King’s College London or another UK university. They are full-time programmes to develop your essential knowledge in a chosen degree subject area; introduce you to the UK education system; and improve your academic English so you are fully prepared for your degree.
Which Foundation should I take? The Extended King’s International Foundation Programme and Extended King’s International Foundation Blended Programme are for students with an IELTS score of 5.5 with no element below 5.0. These options start in August with an additional 5 weeks of online intensive academic English preparation. King’s International Foundation Programme and King's International Foundation Blended Programme are for students with an IELTS score of 6.0 with no skill below 5.5.
These options start in September and are for students who do not require any additional academic English language support. Students that choose a blended programme will study the first term online and arrive on campus for face-to-face teaching in January. What does this course cover? The King's International Foundation provides a structured journey for you to enter into a relevant undergraduate degree at King’s, or at another university in the UK. 90% of our class of 2019/20 met their entry conditions to progress to King’s for undergraduate study in 2020/21.
You will learn essential skills to prepare you for the demands of undergraduate study including: Critical thinking Essay writing Research Exam techniques Presentation skills By the end of the programme, you will have improved your overall academic skills, your academic language and have a more detailed understanding of your chosen academic subject. Teaching A typical academic week comprises around 15 hours of contact time, although this will vary by week. You are expected to commit to an average of at least an additional 15 hours a week of independent study, including research tasks. The programme is typically taught through a combination of lectures, seminars and classes.
We use a delivery method that ensures students have a rich, exciting experience from the start and typically no more than 16 students per class.* Face-to-face teaching will be complemented and supported with innovative technology so that students also experience elements of digital learning and assessment. The first term of the blended programmes will be studied online where you will be expected to participate in online and self-directed study tasks, flexibly, for up to 35 hours per week. During the online component of the course, classes will include a combination of self-directed interactive learning units, live online lessons, and collaborative tasks.
Assessment The nature of assessment varies by module. Most modules are assessed through a combination of coursework and final examinations. The type of assessment may include: Essays Exams Presentations Practical laboratory examinations
