Programme Aims & Learning Outcomes
To equip students with knowledge and principles in optometry and vision science in order to work in ophthalmic industry and health care settings. Students will be trained to provide comprehensive and high-quality support in research activities and contribute to the development of vision science research in Hong Kong and worldwide.
Programme Characteristics
BSc (Hons) in Vision Science + Secondary Major is a 4-year programme.
Students will not receive any clinical training. Instead, they will acquire cross-disciplinary knowledge of artificial intelligence and data analytics or innovation and entrepreneurship through one of the Secondary Majors.
Curriculum
The programme comprises General University Requirements (GUR) subjects and three main areas of study: basic sciences, vision sciences, and optometric sciences.
Years 1 and 2 concentrate on general education and basic sciences to establish a sound base of knowledge.
Apart from learning more advanced knowledge in vision science, Years 3 and 4 focus on the development of AIDA or IE mindset.
An integrated project is conducted in Years 3 and 4.
Professional Recognition
Graduates of BSc (Hons) in Vision Science are NOT eligible for registration in any part of Register of the Optometrists Board of Hong Kong.
Career Prospects
Graduates will be able to work in ophthalmic industry and health care settings. Graduates will be able to provide support in research activities.
Graduates can pursue postgraduate research studies locally and overseas and become vision scientists.
