The PhD is a globally recognised postgraduate research degree and the highest level of degree you can achieve. PhD students are critical, curious, creative thinkers who undertake original research over at least 3 years. This course is also offered at overseas locations. Speech Science Speech Science is about speech, language and swallowing difficulties. Speech Science is a large and complex field that includes topics in acoustic analysis and speech recognition, diagnosis of speech, language disorders, speech-language therapy and speech perception. The University of Auckland is home to the Speech Science Group, which is comprised of researchers from departments and schools across the University, including the School of Psychology and the Department of Audiology and Engineering. We also have the well-equipped Speech Science Laboratory, which houses a range of therapy and analysis equipment for treatment of speech disorders.
Where can Speech Science take you? Speech and language therapists work in a range of settings including hospitals, schools, special schools, early intervention teams, community clinics and private practice. Programme structure The University of Auckland PhD is a three-to-four year full-time advanced research degree. On possible to the PhD programme, you will be enrolled provisionally. By the end of your first year, you must meet a number of goals to be confirmed into the PhD programme, including developing a full thesis proposal. After confirmation, you will continue to work on your research before submitting your thesis for examination after three years and within four years of your start date.
The examination process includes an oral exam.
