The AA Degree in History is designed to allow seamless transition into the History BA at the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences at the main campus but can be used as the building block for other majors as well.
Success
History majors must possess the ability to learn how to analyze primary sources and historical facts, to participate in informed discussion of conflicting historical perspectives and to appreciate the diversity of human experience over space and time. In addition, history students must be committed to developing skills in critical thinking, research methods and the integration of that knowledge in writing and oral communication.
CareerThere are many career options open for Historians, including museums, historical preservation, archives, editing and publishing, positions in federal, state, and local historical agencies, and, of course, public school teaching. Further, the skills of the historian – research, writing, critical thinking – are transferable to many occupations and professions.
Famous History majors: Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Conan O’Brien, Katherine Hepburn, Samuel J. Palmisano (CEO of IBM), Ben Silverman (CEO of NBC), Wolf Blitzer, author Seymour Hersh, and Supreme Court Justices Anthony Kennedy, Elena Kagan, and Antonin Scalia. And, of course, UC basketball Coach Mick Cronin.
