The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) programme at Xiamen University (XMU) was established in 1956. Over the past 60 years, more than 20,000 graduates, who came from more than 50 countries and regions, have successfully completed the programme and made great contributions to the development of TCM in China and Southeast Asia. The programme is supported by the Medical College at XMU, 10 affiliated tertiary hospitals (the highest level in the Chinese hospital classification), and over 20 hospitals and centres which are involved in the teaching and internship in Xiamen, China. In addition, it also enjoys the support of 315 professors and associate professors. The Medical College has established more than 50 teaching departments and research institutes such as Cross-strait Technology Platform for Traditional Chinese Medicine (Xiamen), National Medical Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Centre, National Institute for Data Science in Health and Medicine, and Cancer Research Centre. Some of the featured research areas include: TCM research in Fujian, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia, TCM information based research, TCM tongue diagnosis, TCM rheumatism and neuro-immunity and TCM modernisation studies.
Our programme at the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) aims to cultivate skilled, competent and compassionate TCM practitioners who are able to apply problem-solving techniques and evidence-based knowledge in the diagnosis, treatment and management of their patients as well as in teaching and research. At present, the School boasts a TCM Simulation Learning and Training Centre, a Chinese Herbal Processing Laboratory, XMUM Herbal Garden, and more than 30 clinical training bases.
