This specialist certificate in dental education is designed by dentists for those teaching in a dental context. It will help you analyse everyday teaching and learning opportunities, and will enhance your knowledge and skills of methods of teaching and assessment. Medical education is at the core of healthcare provision the world over. Ensuring the future workforce is prepared to meet the challenges of modern healthcare means we need experts in medical education to help shape practice.
At the Centre for Medical Education, founded over 40 years ago by Professor Ronald Harden, we enable medical educators to reach their goals, and ensure they're prepared to train medical professionals of the future, including dentists. Our wide-ranging curriculum fits around you and your working life, whether you're new to teaching and training, or wish to advance existing skills and knowledge. You'll start with two core modules - Teaching & Learning in Medical Education and Principles of Assessment in Medical Education. These will give you a strong overview of the core concepts of medical education. You'll then complete a specialist module that will help you critically evaluate teaching within a dental care setting while developing, delivering and reflecting on your own teaching and assessment of students.
Following this certificate, you could progress on to our PGDip or Masters courses to further your learning. Careers: This course will prepare you to take on new challenges and responsibilities in your career. You'll gain a strong understanding of the underlying principles of medical education in relation to dentistry, and how the field is changing to react to the demands of modern healthcare teaching. You'll have the knowledge and skills to deliver the medical curriculum more effectively, and also be fully equipped to design and evaluate medical training at all levels, ensuring effective development of those you are training.
