Raffles aim to rise to the challenges and accept that different eras will demand different values, skills, behaviours and competencies from all of us. As a higher education provider, we strive to lead in the development of creativity, design and management expertise to contribute to the development of society.
The Advanced Diploma in Jewellery Design programme at Raffles College of Higher Education encourages creativity of complex design and ecologically friendly jewellery – through conceptualization, innovation, originality, technical skills and professionalism at advanced levels. Close ties with industry partners and industry collaborations and projects also give the student a strong sense of ‘reality’ and realization of career prospects for the future. In an increasingly competitive, commercial and technological environment, designers have never played such a central and important role in re-defining an ever-changing ‘creative’ environment.
Students will experience during year two –a more defined specialization in Jewellery Design, encouraging confidence in scale, material exploration and scope of complex design issues and aesthetic sensitivities. The jewellery designer is crucial in this competitive environment, as are the materials selected. With new and innovative jewellery, the environment is enriched and people’s lifestyles are improved, whether the jewellery is large or small – jewellery design creates an identity and holds a strong cultural value as a contemporary communication vehicle. Students will also be encouraged to be more ‘self-directed’ in their studies during this second year of the programme.
The programme objectives are delivered through lectures, seminars, case studies, studio workshops and tutorial feedback with a range of assessment methods including research and project work, presentations, written assignments and examinations.
