The mission of agriculture is to realize sustainable food production while respecting the environment and coexisting with other living things on earth. The mission of engineering is to create optimal technology within given natural conditions, biological resources, and human resources. The Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering provides education that harmonizes two fields, agriculture and engineering, and contributes to the survival and development of humanity.

Human beings have controlled natural substances in various ways for their own prosperity and to increase the efficiency of food production. However, because these actions went too far or went wrong, desertification, global warming, acid rain, etc. occurred, and the global environment deteriorated.

Environmental problems cannot be solved simply by caring about the environment. We believe it is important to investigate the background of environmental problems and develop a design philosophy for solving them. Aiming for harmony between the global environment and humanity, and further protecting the global environment as a place for safe and secure food production. Carrying out such designs is the mission of the Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering. Fields such as Earth observation using remote sensing and sustainable biological production, which are necessary for this purpose, are the areas where the Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering is most skilled.

The Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering conducts education and research in connection with the three fields of "scale analysis," "science and application," and "design." For students interested in earth observation, remote sensing, biosensing, 3D CG, etc., we will introduce the field of "measuring and analyzing living things and the environment" to contribute to food safety and security, post-harvest technology, stable and sustainable agriculture, etc. For students who want to study food and the environment, the field of ``science and application of food and the environment'' is the field of study, and for students who think that issues such as global desertification, flood control, and restoration of degraded soil are important, the field of ``designing regions with consideration for the global environment'' is the field of study.
