Forest science is an academic field in which, while focusing on the work carried out by forests, students learn techniques and knowledge concerning their use and regeneration and seek out desirable relationships between humans and woodland ecosystems. With its emphasis on field-based experience through practical training and surveys, a major feature of this field is that analysis is carried out from an interdisciplinary and multilateral perspective.
Students can learn forest science in their undergraduate studies in two major degree programs: Forest Life Science and Forest Environmental and Resource Science. In the former, students can learn about the various life phenomena associated with forestry management. In the latter, students can learn about relationships between forests and the environment, the function of forests as environments for human life, and the sustainable use of forest resources. Students wishing to continue their studies further can do so at the Graduate School’s Department of Forest Science.
